Irrfan Khan speaks up about ‘Doob’

Film ‘No Bed of Roses’(Doob in Bangla)

Allegedly loosely based on late novelist and filmmaker Humayun Ahmed’s life, has been banned by the Bangladesh Information Ministry recently. Indian actor Irrfan Khan has starred as the lead actor and co-produced the film.

Irrfan, who has given hits like Piku and Pan Singh Tomar in Bollywood, said, “I am really surprised to know that the government of Bangladesh has blocked the film. This is a humane story that deals with complex male and female relationships in a subtle and balanced way. What harm will it cause to the society if seen?”

Irrfan has also been a part of cinema outside India, such as in blockbusters like ‘Jurassic World’ and ‘Inferno’. Variety claimed that the magazine have had access to the film and it starts with a disclaimer that the film has no resemblance to any real life characters alive or dead. Notably, filmmaker Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, the helmer of the film, has denied that it’s a biopic.

No Bed of Roses is a co-production between Bangladesh’s Jaaz Multimedia and India’s Eskay Movies with Irrfan’s IK Company as co-producer.
